What Benefits Do Fire Extinguishers Provide For ATVs & UTVs?

Pretty obvious, isn’t it? Fire extinguishers do exactly what they say they’re gonna do – they have special compounds that mix with water that work to put out fires with relentless efficiency and speed. That’s reason enough to have one on your machine, but the best part is that they’re also relatively cheap, especially considering the important job they do.

Of course, fire extinguishers still work if they’ve been rolling around in your machine all day, but you’ll probably also want a mount to make them a bit more accessible. Luckily, we offer some of the highest-quality extinguisher mounts in the business, and they do a great job of making sure that you can get the protection you need quickly and safely.

How To Avoid Fire Dangers On Your ATV, UTV or Side By Side Altogether

Being proactive about potential fire danger is essential, of course, but obviously we never want to see you in a situation where you have to deal with a fire in the first place. So, we’ve compiled a list of tips that you can use to ensure that your risk of fire is low, if not zero, when you head out for the trails:

  1. Run Fire Drills: Preparation is the best prevention, especially when it comes to fire safety. Your ATV or UTV will likely have a five-point harness that keeps you strapped in and secure during rougher rides, but this could end up being a problem if you have a machine that’s on fire and you need to get out quickly. So, you and your passenger should practice evacuating your machine regularly so if the event does happen, you’re ready for it.
  2. Make Sure You Have the Right Fire Extinguisher and It’s Mounted Correctly: There are many different types of fire extinguishers out there, but the ones you should be concerned about are the ABC type. They can cover any fire associated with your machine, including wood fires, burning oil or gas, and electrical fires. Also, make sure you have your extinguisher mounted somewhere it’ll easily be reached, won’t get damaged, and also won’t hurt you.
  3. Use Proper Technique With Gas Cans: First off, the right gas can is an essential call – make sure you have either a plastic or metal can to bring with you, and always fill it on the ground; never in your machine itself. Keep your gas cans secured properly (i.e. far away from the gas tank) as well, and as a general rule of thumb, don’t bring any gas with you if you don’t need it.
  4. Don’t Make A Fire Worse: Sometimes a fire is inevitable, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be spread throughout the area. Start clearing brush and building fire breaks to contain the fire, then throw dirt around the spreading flames to help kill them off while you work to extinguish the rest.
