Why Beadlock Wheel Maintenance Matters So Much For Your Machine

Beadlock wheels give your ATV, UTV and SXS better traction, lower air pressure performance, and trail-dominating confidence—but only when they're maintained right.

Longevity Starts With Maintenance

Your beadlock wheels take a beating every ride. Keeping the ring bolts tight, the surfaces clean, and the torque dialed in ensures your setup lasts longer and stays reliable.

Catch Problems Before They Get Worse

Bent rings, missing bolts, uneven tire seating—these are issues you can catch before a ride, not during one, if you’re checking them regularly.

Beadlock Bolts Can and Will Loosen Over Time

All that terrain vibration adds up. Even if your torque was perfect last month, beadlock bolts can slowly back out if left unchecked.

Prevent Getting Stranded in the Middle of Nowhere

One loose bolt can turn into a leaking bead, which turns into a flat tire, which turns into you dragging your rig out of the forest by hand. Avoid that horror story with a 20-minute maintenance check.

Signs You’re Not Maintaining Your Beadlocks Correctly

Here’s how your ATV or UTV will let you know it’s time to give your beadlocks some love:

  • Your Tires Are Slowly Losing Air
This usually means your beadlock ring isn't sealing properly. Either bolts are loose, or debris is messing with the bead seat.
  • Your Beadlock Ring Looks Warped or Bent
That’s a clear sign it wasn’t installed correctly last time or it took some trail damage. Don’t reuse a damaged ring—it’ll only cost you more in the long run.

How To Disassemble and Reassemble a Beadlock Wheel (ATV/UTV Guide)

Whether you’re replacing a tire or chasing down a slow leak, here's the enthusiast-approved way to break down and rebuild your beadlocks so you can get back to the road nice and easy:

  1. Set the Wheel on a 5-Gallon Bucket
A little trail-rider trick: it keeps the tire off the ground and makes bolt access a breeze.
  2. Loosen Bolts Evenly
Back each bolt out in small increments to prevent the ring from flexing or cracking under uneven pressure.
  3. Remove the Ring and Inspect for Damage
Check for bends, chips, and trail rash. A warped ring won’t seal right—swap it if needed.
  4. Inspect Bolts for Wear
Look for stripped threads, rounded heads, or rust. Replace any sketchy ones. You’ll thank yourself later.
  5. Clean All Surfaces
Wipe dirt, rocks, and debris from the ring, bolt holes, and bead seat. Clean metal = clean seal.
  6. Reseat the Tire Bead
Press the tire firmly into place and check for an even seal all the way around.
  7. Hand-Thread Bolts
Start all bolts by hand to make sure they’re aligned properly and avoid cross-threading.
  8. Tighten in a Star Pattern
Just like lug nuts—go crisscross to distribute pressure evenly and avoid warping the ring.
  9. Torque Bolts to Spec
Most ATV/UTV beadlocks require 12–20 ft-lbs. Check the backside of your wheel or the ring for your exact torque rating—or contact the manufacturer directly.
